Meet Shauna Reiff, LMFT

Your partner in creating a life filled with clarity, connection, and balance.

A native of the Bay Area, I have worked in the field of social work and psychotherapy since 1998.
I completed my undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and my Masters of Science in psychology at San Francisco State University. I continued my studies for three additional years of post-graduate training at the Women’s Therapy Center (WTC). WTC is an in-depth training program that focuses on clinical work within a socially conscious, Relational-Analytic framework. In 2003 I joined the Board of Directors and was Chair of the Board from 2007 to 2008.
Aside from my private practice, I am also a clinical social worker and consultant in non-profit agencies around the Bay Area, working with communities and families coping with multiple stressors such as poverty, oppression, and violence.
In 2006, I began to utilize Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as a way to integrate my years of study and practice of meditation and yoga into my professional life. MBSR was developed more than 20 years ago at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Working with the concept of mindfulness has become integral to how I work as a psychotherapist;it helps to create a spaciousness within the room, allowing for deeper listening and permission to explore. I completed the second phase of certification to become an MBSR instructor through UMass Medical, and have now taught at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, California, Community Centers, and to individuals in my private practice.

My Approach

For twenty years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding individuals and couples on a journey of discovery. My approach is a unique blend of existential theory, Jungian analytical therapy, and attachment-oriented couples work, (or Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy).
I believe that the challenges we face aren’t just personal, but are also connected to the larger world we live in. My work is rooted in the belief that each of us is a unique composite of our culture, experiences, and potential. Together, we’ll explore your vast inner landscape—your dreams, creativity, and the unconscious forces at play—to connect with your deepest self and understand your purpose. From an existential perspective, we’ll reflect on how you relate to your physical, cultural, and psychological environments, identifying the roadblocks that prevent you from living a full life.
At the same time, I use the attachment-oriented EFT model to help you understand the dynamics and “cycles” of your most important relationships. By exploring how you and your partner connect (or disconnect), we can uncover long-standing patterns and create new ways of relating. The goal is to bring your whole self—your unique individuality—into your relationships, fostering deeper intimacy and mutual understanding.
