Fees &FAQs

Initial Consultation/Interview

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so you can determine goodness of fit.

Ongoing Individual and Couples Work

My fees typically range between $90 and $120 for a 50-minute session. And for a Couples 75-minute session:$100-$150.

Fees are set during the initial phone consultation or meeting, and are based on your financial ability as well as my practice’s needs. I believe psychotherapy should be available to those who need it, so when feasible, I provide a sliding scale fee based on household income. Typically I offer reduced fees for daytime appointments.

Telephone Support

Phone calls are prorated based on hourly fee and billed in 5-minute increments.

Payment Options

You can pay for services by check, cash, or PayPal. Please have your PayPal payment sent or your check made out before your session to maximize our time together.

Payment is due at the start of the session.

Cancellations

Please notify me by phone-call 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. Because your time is specifically reserved for you, cancellations less than 48 hours in advance will result in a charge of your full fee for the missed session.

Can I Use Insurance to Pay for Therapy?

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan.  I am on a few select insurance panels. You should be aware of the implications of using insurance.  To be covered by insurance, therapeutic services must be considered medically necessary. Therefore, insurance companies require me to provide a mental illness diagnosis. In addition, the insurance company may require me to provide detailed treatment plan information, progress updates, or complete client records. This information may be stored in databases and may be accessible to other insurers. As with other medical diagnoses, these records have the potential to affect the cost or eligibility for insurance in the future. I encourage you to consider the potential compromise of your confidentiality.

What to ask your insurance company

If I am not on your panel I can provide statements to submit to your insurance company and many clients have been able to get reimbursed by their insurance companies for psychotherapy. If so, you would pay me at each session, send the statement to the insurance company, and wait for their reimbursement.

If you are interested in finding out whether your insurance company will reimburse you for "out of network"psychotherapy, here are some questions to ask them.

  • Do you reimburse for out of network psychotherapy?

  • What percentage do you reimburse?

  • Is there an annual deductible? (you will not be reimbursed until you have met the deductible)

  • Is precertification required, and if so, who needs to call?

  • Is there a maximum number of sessions covered per year and per lifetime?
